Dieline

A dieline is a flat drawing that identifies where a package is cut, creased, perforated and assembled.

What it means in packaging

It describes the structure before folding. Artwork is positioned against that drawing, but the production lines must remain identifiable separately from printed graphics. An attractive 3D image alone does not supply these manufacturing instructions.

A practical example

A carton dieline shows four body panels, end flaps and a glue flap. Each shared folding edge is marked as a crease, while the outer contour is cut.

What to check

Confirm size, units, line types and material with the converter, then make a physical sample before a production run.
